Rules

When Every Tuesday evening, with each Series starting the first Tuesday of every third month (January, April, July, October). Registration will begin at 6:15pm, players seated at 6:52pm, and cards dealt at 7:00pm SHARP. The series will run for 12 weeks - 10 weekly games and a Season Ending Tournament (SET) on the final two Tuesday's of the Series. All games will be played at Southmead Park in Oshawa (103 Kawartha Avenue), just off Simcoe St. S. in Oshawa. Cost The cost for an entire Series is $190 for the full 3-month Series All players must pay for all remaining weeks of the Series they wish to register for – weekly payments will not be accepted. Players may join the Series at any time, and a pro-rated fee will apply, wth the total cost depending on the week players join the Series. If paid and are unable to attend, your blinds will be posted until you either show up, or are blinded out, and all SET chips accumulated will count. However, any points earned by players not showing up will not be credited. Points As well as earning money, each weekly game will give every player who has paid (including those who did not show up, or “dead” players) points. These points will be transferred to chips at the SET. The more points you accumulate, the more chips you begin the SET with. “The dead” players points will count towards chips for the SET (see below), but will not count in the standings. Series Ending Tournament (SET) The SET is open to anyone who has participated in any the weekly games for the Series, and will not cost a monetary fee. However, a food donation will be required. All that is needed to enter is to have earned a single point! There will be an average of 30,000 chips per player in play at the SET. The amount of chips given to each person at the start of the SET will depend solely on the number of points accumulated through the weekly games. This is determined using an exact ratio of points accumulated to total points given out, and this ratio is then applied to the total chips in play. The Game The game will be regulation No-Limit Hold’em Poker. For 1-11 people, there will be a single table. For 11+ players, tables will be divided as equally as possible, with a maximum of 8 players per table where at all possible. Tables will be merged when fair and possible. Each player will start with 2500 chips. The blinds will start small at 5 / 10 and increase every 10 minutes. Due to the success of the Series, it has been decided that the game will be split into two completely separate games. Thus, each week there will be two winners, and two sets of prizes. The players will be randomly seated each week, with each week having no bearing on any other week in regards to seating. The final tables will begin with 9 players. Winnings The weekly prize money will consist of $10 multiplied by the number of players paid that week. Thus, if 35 players pay (including those who paid in full in advance, but did not show up), there will be $350 in prize money that week. The number of prizes available to be won each week will depend on the number of players who showed up to play that week. There will be a prize for every 8 players, plus two extra prizes. Thus, if 35 players show up, there will be 6 prizes (1st through 6th). The player with the highest point total at the end of the weekly games will win a cash prize. In fact, at least the top 6 point getters will win money. Prize money will be given to the top 10 finishers of the SET (those who have reached the final table, plus the bubble). The amount of money to be divided will depend on the numbers of participants during the weekly games. High Hand Each week, the OPS will award the player who achieved the highest ranking hand of the night. The amount of this prize will depend on the number of players participating that night, at $1 per player. 35 players, $35 for the High Hand. This cost is included in your entry fee. Last Man Standing All players who play in a Series from the first week are automatically entered into the Last Man Standing (LSM) contest. Each week, a number of players are eliminated from the LSM. This continues until Week 10 of each Series, where the last player remaining wins a free entry into the next Series. Royal Flush Jackpot The OPS has a Royal Flush Jackpot that runs through ALL their Tuesday OPS games. Any player who hits a Royal Flush using both of their hole cards will win the jackpot. The prize begins at $100, and increases $5 each week that it is not won. Should a player hit a Royal Flush using only one of their hole cards, they will win a $50 prize, and $50 will be removed from the jackpot. This jackpot is included in all Tuesday OPS games, including the SET, Freerolls and other “special games.” Player of the Year Each year, the OPS gives out a Player of the Year (PotY) award. To determine the PotY, the OPS uses a complex formula which takes into account each players weekly finish, points and winnings. No updates on the PotY are given at any time during the year, and the final results, which will include EVERY player that participated in an OPS weekly game during the calendar year, are counted down on our Oshawa Poker Series (OPS) Facebook page. The winner of the PotY receives a free entry into all 4 of the following year’s Series. Discounts The OPS is often asked to run events and tournaments for various organizations. Players who are registered with the OPS at the time of the event will receive discounts into these events and tournaments. In order to get your discount, you must pay for and show up at the event, and then show up for any OPS game on Tuesday, where you will be refunded the amount of the discount.
